Cytochrome c then receives electrons from III and passes them to complex IV. Electron flow is linked to protons pumped out of the matrix (dotted arrows). Proton gradient drives ATP formation by F0F1 ATPase (complex V). Propofol inhibits mitochondrial function at multiple sites.
